From Don’t Look Now to Casino Royale, the unique beauty of Venice has set the stage as a city with one of the world’s finest cinematic histories – whilst the prestigious International Venice Film Festival has long celebrated the best of cinema. The 70th Venice International Film Festival started this week on the 28th August.
During the 1950’s and 1960’s, often referred to as the Golden Age of Italian Cinema, many hotels around Europe boasted private screening rooms where they would preview the top films each season. Today, the Hotel BAUERs continues to honour this tradition by showing films in their original, unedited, format.
During the film festival the Bauer is presenting a programme of films, including:
- Premiere Event “Lord Byron in Venice” w/ Emma Thompson
- Homage to Bernardo Bertolucci:
- Retrospective Screening – Anniversary “Don’t Look Now”
- Curated Retrospective – Premiere Event for Peter Chan
- Retrospective Screening – Matthias Brunner “Magnificent Obsession” Art/Video Installation
