Carnival Time In Venice
As we prepare for the carnival in Venice (15 February – 4 March 2014), we love to see the city draped in mist in the winter months. Winter is one of our favourite times to see the city, and the view from our balcony at The Bauers Hotel with mists rolling in from the sea, lends Venice extra mystery.
The Mask
The height of carnival celebrations is the famous masked ball, the Ballo del Doge, and the question on everybody’s mind is which mask to choose. This year, the hotel will also host “The Shining Ball” on the 22nd February. Which mask will you choose? We went for this one, and this costume.
The last masked party we attended was many moons ago at The Royal Academy, and the costumes were reminiscent of Dangerous Liaisons, the mystery of who is behind the mask added humour to the evening. This year at The Bauers, Atelier Venetia will be on hand to help guests get ready for the ball with themed costumes and masks-a-plenty. The Bauerlesque ball itself will be a treat for the senses, with the event themed on the scents, sounds, sights and myths of the traditional carnival parties of years gone by.

The Party
Guests will enjoy a welcome reception, followed by a Renaissance-style buffet designed by head chef Hiraki Masakazu. Throughout the ball, performances and music will entertain, delight and surprise. With the carnival being a traditional celebration before the rigours of lent, the focus is very much on opulence and luxury, with the Bauerlesque ball being a night of glamour and decadence.
